Who are the Wildlife Champions?
Year 6 are our 'chief' Wildlife Champions but we also have a team of deputies from across the school.
The children entered a competition where they had to create a poster to explain what being a Wildlife Champion meant to them. Then the year 6 'Chief Champions' selected two deputies for each class.
As a group, we are the ones who decide what needs to be done to support wildlife, but we do get some support from staff (Mrs York and Mrs Rowe) and the Devon Wildlife Trust.
We meet at lunch times and during some afternoons to go to conferences, plan projects and talk to our classes about wildlife.
The Big Waste Project
This year, we are doing a large-scale project to boost composting at school. The Wildlife Trust came in to teach us about composting. We looked at soil through a microscope and created our own mini 'rot pots'! The soil was full of tiny worms and snail eggs!
We are now hoping to spread the 'composting word' at school and get everyone thinking about their waste. Watch out for special 'green waste' and 'brown waste' bins at school. Please make sure you don't put food waste in the general bins on the playground.
Please keep an our out for our updates on the website and any letters coming from us.
